Mediavision Academy is proud to welcome back alumna Nisha Kalema, whose journey from beginner screenwriter to award-winning filmmaker is an inspiring testament to the power of passion and dedication.
Back in 2015, Nisha walked through our doors for her first screenwriting class – a spark of ambition igniting within her. Fast forward to today, and that spark has blossomed into a roaring fire.
Nisha’s talent has earned her recognition on a national and international stage, with her work on the award-winning film ‘Veronica’s Wish’ solidifying her place as a force in Ugandan cinema. She scooped up an impressive 9 awards out of 12 nominations, including Best Screenwriting and Best Feature in the Uganda Film Festival 2018. This is a true testament to her incredible talent and dedication.
Nisha’s impact extends beyond the big screen, with her role as headwriter for Junior Drama Club (JDC), screening on Pearl Magic and Pearl Magic Prime Multichioce channels. This impactful initiative garnered the prestigious Best TV Series and Best Actress awards at the 2023 Uganda Film Festival (UFF), showcasing her commitment to nurturing the next generation of filmmakers.
This year, Nisha is back with a new epic production, ‘Makula’, a film that has garnered 12 nominations at the 2024 awards. We couldn’t be prouder of her journey and are eager to see how many awards she can rack up this year. Nisha’s unwavering commitment to her craft and her willingness to strive for excellence make her not only a household name actress but also a producer with a vision.
