From Soundwaves to Screenplays: How Andama Jimmy is Leading Arua’s Film Revolution
For a decade, Andama Jimmy has been a fixture of the Arua audio scene. As a seasoned sound engineer, his ears were tuned to the technicalities of frequency and pitch. However, after a transformative four-day film capacity-building session in Arua City, Jimmy’s perspective has shifted from the soundboard to the “big picture.”
At 34, Jimmy is no longer just capturing audio; he is embracing a newfound identity as a multi-hyphenate creative and entrepreneur.

Unlocking the “Business Mindset”
The most significant takeaway for Jimmy wasn’t just technical—it was commercial. Despite his ten years of experience, he admits he previously lacked a strategic “business mindset.” The training served as a catalyst, teaching him how to monetize his dual roles as an actor and sound engineer.
“Now I know that films mean business,” Jimmy reflects. “The training helped unlock my potential… I now know how to combine my roles to make money.”
By mastering the intersections of scriptwriting, cinematography, and marketing, Jimmy is moving beyond the role of a technician and stepping into the shoes of a film producer who understands the value of his craft in the marketplace.

Bridging the Gap: Arua to Gulu and Beyond
The session wasn’t just about solo growth; it was about building a regional powerhouse. Through intensive networking with peers, Jimmy has already secured an invitation to participate in a major film project in Gulu City next month.
This connectivity is part of a larger shift in Northern Uganda’s creative economy. Supported by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and MultiChoice, Arua City is no longer an isolated creative hub. The presence of renowned filmmakers from Kampala, who served as jurors and mentors, has signaled a new era of collaboration.

A Call to Action for the Youth
With a decade of experience under his belt, Jimmy is now assuming the mantle of a mentor. His message to the younger generation in Arua and beyond is clear: The film industry is open for business.
He believes that the current generation of “seniors”—now equipped with modern marketing and promotion skills—is ready to guide the youth through the complexities of the industry. For Jimmy, the evolution of Arua’s identity into a filmmaking destination is more than a professional milestone; it is a point of personal pride.
“That makes me happy,” he says, looking toward a future where Arua doesn’t just watch movies—it makes them.
