The American Center of Kampala and Mediavision Academy: Forging Partnerships for Youth Success
Kampala, 2 December 2024 – Mr. Robert Nkambo, the visionary founder and director of Mediavision Academy, accompanied by 4 of his collaborators, was received at the American Center of Kampala, a hub known for empowering youth through innovative programs based on Ggaba Road in the Makindye District, Kampala.
The day’s agenda was clear—to forge partnerships that would enhance youth capacity in filmmaking and entrepreneurship, areas where Mediavision Academy had made significant strides. Inside, Robert was greeted by Winnie Mwanguzi and Mildred Namazzi, the American Center representatives whose commitment to youth empowerment was palpable.
He began by sharing the Academy’s journey, a decade-long endeavor that had transformed over 260 young lives through comprehensive training in photography, videography, and film production. “The curriculum we provide is project-based and tailored for both young men and women,” he explained, painting a vivid picture of passionate youth eager to break into the film industry.
Winnie and Mildred listened intently as the Mediavision Academy Director highlighted their significant collaborations with esteemed organizations like the Uganda Communications Commission, UNESCO, and the Pearl International Film Festival. These partnerships, he emphasized, were pivotal in equipping students with the essential skills and industry experience they needed to thrive.
To illustrate the Academy’s impact, Robert introduced Ms. Samalie Zalwango, a shining beacon of hope and success. A former graduate from the Academy, Samalie had already made her mark in the industry, taking on the role of assistant director in a promising project called “Damalie.” Standing before the representatives, she spoke with passion, “Mediavision Academy keeps mentoring me and always rings the bell on me to do more.”
With each story shared, the room lit up with possibilities. The American Center coordinator, visibly inspired, assured the delegation of the Center’s readiness to collaborate, opening doors to new networks and resources. “Together,” she said with a smile, “we can amplify the voices of our youth and help them turn their dreams into realities.”
As the meeting drew to a close, Robert felt a renewed sense of optimism. The partnership he envisioned between Mediavision Academy and the American Center was beginning to take shape. With their combined vision and efforts, they could ignite a wave of creativity among the youth of Kampala, ensuring their talents would be nurtured and celebrated on both local and global stages.
The Mediavision Academy delegation left the American Center with hearts full of hope and excitement. They had taken significant steps towards bridging the gap between aspiration and achievement—a true testament to the power of collaboration in empowering the future filmmakers and entrepreneurs of Uganda.
